Maintaining your balance of life during tough times

Understanding life itself can be tedious. Everyone is trying to be the best versions of themselves but in the process they lose it. Society has made us believe that once you’re done with your degree, jobs will just be looking for you. I don’t know the truth to that. Applying and attending interviews has become our job now.

Our youths today have a different approach towards life and are trying to bend the rules. Some make it others don’t. That’s a perfect balance. Problem comes in when the bigger percentage don’t succeed making them find comfort in a bottle of booze. Youths have other major issues such as, depression, substance abuse, growing up too fast, just to mention a few. Abusing drugs makes you forget your aches but doesn’t solve the problem. Once the bottle is done and your conscience kicks in, you go right back to it. It’s like being trapped in a loop.

In Kenya, the highest percentage consists of the youth. According to Pew Research Center, young adults are the most educated yet when you go to the streets, again they dominate. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not against education. Am against our system. There are learned people doing manual jobs with minimum pay. Ask me where we are going as a country. Most people are struggling. To some that is the definition of life.

These are some of the ways of maintaining a balance to a healthy life;

Celebrate yourself

Whenever people face challenges, we see ourselves as less productive. It’s normal to feel that way, we are human. We reach this point and forget to celebrate our wins. No matter how small, they should be noticed. In the world of today, never wait for some else’s compliment. Cheer yourself up. You are the only person that knows how far you’ve come.

Maintain your Mental Health

Exercising your body is as important as exercising your mind. Many are suffering in silence. Especially during this covid time. So many people lost their jobs. Others haven't acquired jobs yet.Mental health awareness should be taught in schools. This will help reduce the number of suicide cases we have across the world. Regular visits to a therapist should be normalized. Lets stop treating our friends and family members who have therapy appointments as insane people. Remember your mind is like your garden, the more you water it, the more it feeds you.

Surround yourself with positive friends

Most times when we have problems, we turn to our friends. A friend can help or destroy your life. Choose a good support system. We need friends to move. It doesn’t have to be financial, even emotional and physical support is enough. Staying active during tough times will help you relax. That is where friends come in. According to Cory Booker, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone but if you want to go far go together.’

Conclusion

In the search of perfection you won’t find yourself. Life is to be lived not to be stressed. Understanding that not everything has to go your way, the better. We say only live once but I differ with that. We only die once and live everyday. Choose peace of mind.
